Who Are We, But Our Hopes and Dreams?

We created Wild Hearth Acres, because we wanted to document our many outdoor adventures and DIY projects. As we looked towards our future, we realized that we need room to grow and space to build. So, we have a big dream to one day own our own land and build our own home. We want to build a life together with the land, so that our harvest can provide us with sustainable food security.

We envision a future where we can harvest enough food to sustain us year-round. We are avid gardeners with a few small raised beds. We will need more garden space if we want to fill our shelves with jars of fruit, pickled veggies, jams, and sauces. We are novice hunters with a lot of learning to do, if we want to fill our freezers with wild game meats and fish. We want to forage the forests for berries, herbs, and mushrooms. We have only just begun to get to know Alberta’s backyards and there is still so much forest, mountain, and prairie meadows to explore. We hope to share our journey with you as we deepen our connection to the land.

There is always a lot of work to do, and we have many projects currently on the go. Hunting season is upon us and this is the first year that we both have our hunting licenses. So, this is this autumn we will be hunting for grouse and White Tail Deer together. We have also done some fishing, and we repaired the boat this past summer. So, we are looking to get it into the water next year. There is still time to ride our many machines before the snow arrives. They usually require Troy's mechanical attention. One day, we want to build a forge and create our own tools that fit our lifestyle. There is always something to build or fix when we are going out into the wild.

We hope that as our reliance on nature grows, our dependence on urban economics withers. Trade is an equitable exchange of goods and services. When we trade, we focus on the value of meeting each other’s needs. Trade also allows us to connect with our friends and neighbors in a way that is meaningful.

Wild Hearth Acres is a place to record our successes and failures, a place to connect with people who share our passion for the outdoors, and a place to hope and to dream.
